Two performances of modern dance, based on well-known works of classical composers, were given recently at the Joyce Theater, New York, by the Pascal Rioult Dance Theatre.
Dancer and teaching artist Marianna Tsartolia, who performed in the ‘Firebird’ and the ‘Veneziana’, both based on the homonymous compositions by Igor Stravinski is a permanent member of the eight-member dance company. ‘Bolero’, the last production of the Pascal Rioult Dance Theatre, which took place within the framework of a tribute to Maurice Ravel's four works with Marianna Tsartolia's participation, also received the applaud of the critics.
Marianna Tsartolia has been a member of the Pascal Rioult Dance Theatre since 1998, holding the position of the team’s teaching artist since 2003. She obtained her diploma in Dance from the Athens State School of Dance.
In 1994, having been granted a scholarship by the Onassis Foundation, she pursued her studies at the Merce Cunningham Dance Studio in New York from which she graduated in 1997. Since then, Marianna Tsartolia has been living and working in New York.
She has worked together with important choreographers and various companies, including the Harry Mandafounis’ Modern Dance Company, the Octana Dance Theatre, the Connecticut Ballet, the Analysis Dance Company, and the Seresta Dance Company, etc. She has also participated in international festivals and some of her choreographies have been performed during the Blitz Festival in New York.
