The scholar pianist Elena Christodoulou gave a series of individual recitals in March 2009 in Egypt. On March 26th, she performed in the Alexandria Opera House, "Sayed Darwish Theater", a concert attended by the Consul General of Greece, while on March 28th she appeared in the Small Hall of the Cairo Opera House and amongst the audience was the Greek Ambassador in Egypt Ioannis-Alexios Zepos.
These appearances were sponsored by the Onassis Foundation under the auspices of the Embassy of Egypt in Greece, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture of Egypt, the Cairo Opera House artistic manager and the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau in Athens.
The performance included works by J.S. Bach, J. Haydn, S. Rachmaninoff, A. Ginastera, as well as compositions by Greek and Egyptian composers, like M. Hadjidakis, I. Constantinides and G. Abdel-Rahim, honouring thus the artistic cooperation between Greece and Egypt.
Elena Christodoulou’s performances gained very favourable reviews from the most prominent newspaper in Egypt, Al-Ahram, which published glowing remarks for her sensitive and yet passionate, but altogether powerful performance. The Greek pianist’s recital at the Cairo Opera House was also filmed by the Egyptian channel Nile TV, featuring an interview from the artist.
