The Austin Robinson Memorial Prize was awarded by the British Economic Journal to scholar economist Gregorios Siourounis and Elias Papaioannou for their joint paper "Democratization and Growth". The prize is awarded by the Royal Economic Society, which publishes the above-mentioned journal, to authors who are within five years of completing their PhD. Gregorios Siourounis is a lecturer in International Economics in the Department of Economics of the University of Peloponnese.

He graduated first from the Athens University of Economics and Business and went on with his post graduate studies in the Iowa State University of Economics & Statistics, and the Pompeu Fabra University of Spain. With the scholarship he was granted by the Onassis Public Benefit Foundation, Siourounis completed his doctorate in the London School of Business and Management.

In 2005, he and Elias Papaioannou were both honoured with the Young Economist Award of the European Economic Association. This honorific award is given to outstanding papers of economists under 30 years old.
